Prevention of acrylate-induced rashes and respiratory diseases in the beauty care and assembly sectors
Objectives
Skin exposure is currently not sufficiently well known to provide guidelines on safe working practices and protection. The aim of the project is to obtain new information on dermal and respiratory exposure, which can be used to prepare clear guidelines on best working practices and protection.
The project will provide free, downloadable guides and instructions, as well as online training for tasks involving artificial nails, eyelash extensions and assembly work.
The study includes workplace measurements and observations. In addition, the suitability of protective glove materials and respirators for work involving acrylates is investigated.
More detailed information on occupational diseases caused by acrylate compounds can be obtained by analysing the patient data studied by the Finnish Institute of Occupational Health in the 2000s.
Data and methods
The study includes workplace measurements and observations. In addition, the suitability of protective glove materials and respirators for work involving acrylates is investigated. Five assembly companies and five beauty care companies from Southern Finland are involved in the study. More detailed information on occupational diseases caused by acrylate compounds can be obtained by analysing the patient data studied by the Finnish Institute of Occupational Health in the 2000s.
Results and impact
Skin exposure is currently not sufficiently well known to provide guidelines on safe working practices and protection. The aim of the project is to obtain new information on dermal and respiratory exposure, which can be used to prepare clear guidelines on best working practices and protection and, consequently, prevent the onset of acrylate allergies. The project will provide free, downloadable guides and instructions, as well as online training for tasks involving artificial nails, eyelash extensions and assembly work.
