Towards research-driven mental health support for employees

Objectives
The project aims to:
- Develop a data-based approach to mental health in work which combines extensive working life and health data on the employed population with new machine learning methods.
- Create a reliable overall view of the use and effectiveness of short psychological consultations in supporting mental health in different employee groups.
- Produce a knowledge-based understanding of the possibilities of data-based mental health guidance for occupational health professionals, workplaces and policy actors.
Results and impact
The research project will produce a diverse register data resource in cooperation with a national occupational health service provider. The register data will be combined with national register data at the Finnish Institute of Occupational Health. This will create many new research opportunities and promote the development of early identification methods to support the mental wellbeing of employees.
In addition to high-quality research, the professorship project funded by the Finnish Research Impact Foundation will provide new perspectives for occupational health care services and ideas for solving acute challenges.
In the future, the results of the research conducted in cooperation with Terveystalo will help not only Terveystalo but also other occupational health actors and experts to develop research-based approaches to mental health care.
