Solving indoor air problems and taking care of various matters related to indoor air quality at the workplace typically requires the expertise of various specialists. In matters related to indoor air quality, the workplace’s line management, property manager and occupational safety and health representatives work together with, for example, a building health specialist, a doctor and, if necessary, a work community specialist. It is important that the workplace’s personnel have the opportunity to participate in investigating and solving indoor air problems.

The Finnish Institute of Occupational Health provides an indoor climate survey service with which you can map your personnel’s experiences of indoor air quality. If necessary, you can also request a feedback meeting designed for the indoor air group in which the results of the survey are reviewed together with a specialist physician from the Finnish Institute of Occupational Health.
The Finnish Institute of Occupational Health also offers different types of training for solving indoor air problems and various indoor air matters. You have access to the services of a building health specialist, a doctor and a work community specialist, according to your needs.
Indoor climate survey as part of the process of solving workplace indoor air issues
Multidisciplinary co-operation and an approach that takes into account various perspectives is key in solving indoor air issues.
The experiences of the premises’ users can be surveyed at the group level as part of the investigation of indoor air issues, if necessary. However, the survey cannot be used to assess if there is a problem with the building or its systems, but rather the building must be inspected separately.
The survey can provide information on the symptoms and harm associated with the indoor environment and factors involved with solving the indoor air problem.
Who is the indoor climate survey suitable for?
Our indoor climate survey service can be used in the evaluation of premises such as offices, schools, day care centres and healthcare facilities, and other similar workplaces. The survey is intended for workplaces with at least 20 persons for whom the premises are their primary place of work (at least half of their working time is spent there).
The survey is best used as part of an overall indoor air investigation process, and its results should be examined in connection with investigations and observations carried out at the workplace in question. The figure below demonstrates the point in the process when you should consider commissioning an indoor climate survey.

Paper survey
The survey can also be conducted with paper forms, upon separate agreement. In this case, the site's occupational health services will carry out the survey in accordance with our instructions, and collect and send the completed paper forms to the Finnish Institute of Occupational Health.
We charge EUR 76 for every package of 20 paper forms, or part thereof, for the entry of data provided to use in this manner.
Comparison with a previous indoor climate survey
If an indoor climate survey has previously been conducted on the location by the Finnish Institute of Occupational Health with the same group breakdown, and the current survey is a follow-up, we can provide a comparison of the results by separate agreement.
We charge EUR 220 per statement for comparison of the results.
Feedback meeting
As a general rule, we recommend that your own occupational health care participates in the feedback meeting in order to provide answers to any possible questions raised during the meeting. If you want a specialist physician from the Finnish Institute of Occupational Health to participate in presenting the results of the survey and the feedback meeting at the workplace, this must be agreed separately with the specialist physician who signed the statement.
This and any other separately agreed work by occupational medicine specialists is charged according to the work performed.
