Mitä kuuluu? study (How are we?)

The ‘Mitä kuuluu?’ study examines, analyses and develops well-being at work in the well-being services counties. The ‘Mitä kuuluu?’ well-being at work survey included in the study provides well-being services counties with a reliable way of mapping out and developing the well-being of their personnel. Participating organizations will have access to a results portal that supports the management of well-being at work, in which they can view their own organization's results up to a unit level, analyse by age and occupational group, and compare results with the average of other well-being services counties.

As of 2018, the well-being at work survey and its summarised focus version have been carried out annually in October-November, the focus version also in the spring if necessary.

Objectives

The aim of the ‘Mitä kuuluu?’ study is to promote well-being at work in well-being services counties and thereby extend the careers of health, social services and rescue services professionals and to increase the attraction and retention power of the sector. ‘Mitä kuuluu?’ is part of the Finnish Institute of Occupational Health's long-term research for the development of well-being at work in the social welfare and health care sector and, in the future, also in the rescue sector.

The well-being at work survey included in the ‘Mitä kuuluu?’ study produces high-quality data on well-being at work for well-being services counties to support their strategic management of well-being at work and work ability. ‘Mitä kuuluu?’ is a comprehensive well-being at work survey, originally created for social welfare and health care organizations based on their needs. The survey is based on researched information as well as on the extensive competence and experience of FIOH experts in well-being at work.

The implementation of the ‘Mitä kuuluu?’ survey provides well-being services counties with a starting point and direction for developing well-being at work. You will gain a comprehensive and versatile situational picture of well-being at work in your well-being services county:

  • psychosocial workload factors and recovery from work
  • the functioning of the work community
  • fairness of management
  • organizational change
  • employees' work ability.

The survey focuses on early signs and issues that urgently need to be addressed and that can be improved to achieve the greatest impact. Developing the issues described by the survey indicators will improve the smooth running of work, well-being at work, as well as the attraction and retention power of the workplace.

Participating organizations will receive an analysis of the current level of well-being at work by FIOH experts as well as recommendations on how to proceed in further development.

For participating organizations, ‘Mitä kuuluu?’ consists of a well-being at work survey or a more concise focus survey with the related results and development portal.

For FIOH, ‘Mitä kuuluu?’ means supporting and developing social welfare, health care and rescue sector work communities, collecting research material, compiling an annual research report and communicating about research results, making an impact on society, as well as numerous further research and development projects that are based on ‘Mitä kuuluu?’ material.

Benefits of the ‘Mitä kuuluu?’ survey

Information on well-being at work is needed to support the strategic management of well-being and work ability, which in turn is a prerequisite for long-term development of working conditions. Developing well-being at work on a research basis is also an asset when competing for skilled labour. Skilled personnel go to workplaces where it has been proven to be good to work.

With the ‘Mitä kuuluu?’ survey, an organization can

  • gain reliable information on its level of well-being at work and related key factors
  • understand what factors to correct or strengthen in order to improve well-being at work
  • assess working conditions as a whole
  • gain a basis for managing personnel risks.

The well-being at work survey makes the personnel's voice heard. It gives the employee a moment to reflect on their own well-being at work. At the same time, the survey provides perspectives on different areas of occupational well-being.

With the ‘Mitä kuuluu?’ survey, you can compare your organization with others or your own previous results. ‘Mitä kuuluu?’ offers extensive reference material of more than 40,000 respondents in the social welfare and health care sector. In other words, you do not have to try to determine whether your organization’s result or an individual work community's result is good or average. The comparison will indicate your level. With the ‘Mitä kuuluu?’ survey, you can compare the data of your own organization or unit in relation to past results of the same organization or unit and other similar organizations at the national level

The implementation of the ‘Mitä kuuluu?’ survey

The implementation of the ‘Mitä kuuluu?’ survey is easy for the organization. FIOH experts are involved in all stages of the process to support the successful implementation of the survey and the utilisation of its results.
